Explore our early learning programme
Our programme supports children as they grow from 3 months to 6 years through strong relationships with teachers, play-based learning, and predictable routines that help children feel confident, capable, and ready for their transition to school.
Learning guided by Te Whāriki
Our teaching approach is guided by Te Whāriki, New Zealand’s early childhood curriculum. Through meaningful play and responsive relationships, children develop wellbeing, belonging, communication, contribution, and exploration as confident and capable learners with a lifelong love of learning.
A typical day at Pakuranga Learning Centre
Predictable routines help children feel secure and confident. Our daily rhythm balances play, discovery, and rest to support every stage of development.
As children grow older, daily routines increasingly support independence and readiness for school.

Nurturing infancy
(3 months – 2 years)
Our youngest learners receive gentle, responsive care in a calm and secure environment. Through strong relationships with familiar teachers, sensory exploration, movement, and daily routines, infants develop trust, wellbeing, and early confidence.
Supporting each stage of development
Children grow and learn in different ways at different ages. Our programme provides age-appropriate experiences that support secure relationships, growing independence, and confidence as children move from infancy through to school readiness.
Toddler independence (2 – 4 years)
Toddlers develop confidence through guided play, language-rich experiences, and opportunities to explore their environment with support from familiar teachers. Daily routines help children build independence, communication skills, and curiosity.
Preschool confidence (4 – 6 years)
Older children strengthen early literacy awareness, problem-solving skills, and independence through small-group learning and collaborative play. These experiences support a smooth, confident transition to school.
Learning through play and relationships
Children learn through play, conversation, and connection with others. Teachers create engaging learning experiences that support curiosity, independence, and confidence while responding to each child’s stage of development and interests.
We aim to provide a welcoming, home-like environment where children feel comfortable, respected, and supported throughout their day.
Social, emotional, and learning confidence
Children build friendships, communication skills, independence, and resilience through everyday learning experiences and strong relationships with teachers. These foundations support confidence in early learning and in the transition to school.
Supporting confident, active learners
Our programme supports children as they grow, with enriching experiences designed to build social, emotional, and learning confidence.
Active indoor and outdoor environments
Children benefit from daily access to our indoor movement gym and natural grass outdoor play area, supporting movement, coordination, wellbeing, and active learning in all seasons.
Enriching experiences
Weekly dance sessions, visits from a librarian, centre celebrations, and
community connections extend children’s confidence, creativity, language development, and sense of belonging
Healthy meals provided
Nutritious meals are provided each day to support children’s wellbeing and energy for learning. Shared meal times also encourage conversation, independence, and positive social interaction.
